City Information

From the Manager's Desk...

The western native garden construction project is underway out by the horseshoe; this will be a low maintenance garden area that will have pompous grass and shrubbery. The city workers completed the concrete footings and cemented the two-course cinder block wall into place. A local masonry contractor will now place the red rock around the cinder block wall. Susanne Hylton is donating her time to help design this garden area with a southwest flair using the native style grass and shrubs. I am excited that she is utilizing her time and skills to design this garden area; her vision and grant writing are the reason we have this amazing iconic horseshoe that is getting so much national attention here in Sayre. This city is applying for two grants that are due to be turned in by the end of September. One of the grants is a Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) SWODA grant that, if accepted, will allow the city to replace 750 feet of 10-inch transmission water line. This water line is located just south of the storage buildings on south fourth street to the river bridge. This water line was installed in the early 50’s. Due to the age of the line and number of leaks in this area, this would be beneficial to the city to get this section replaced.

The second grant is an ODOT (MRDAF) Municipal Road Drilling Activity Fund. If awarded, this grant would allow us to repair the three blocks of Hanna Street with a 4-inch overlay of asphalt. Hanna is the street in front of the Sayre School from HWY 283 to Electra Ave. The city did reach an agreement with ODOT on the facility located at 1904 US Hwy 283. This will be the new location for our City Shop/ Public Works. The current location is in the 300 block of west main. This new location is a 2.5 acre fenced facility. This facility has a two-bay shop area for maintenance on city vehicles, office space and a safety meeting room. The city employees are excited about the move and changes. The city continues to move forward with improvements to our community as well as our employees.
